The Wil Alston Band at the Denver Press Club
November 17, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm MST
Wil Alston has quickly established a solid footing in Denver’s jazz scene. Debuting in 2013 to a sellout performance at Lannie’s Clock Tower Cabaret in downtown Denver, Wil brings a velvet smooth baritone voice that delivers classic and contemporary jazz standards with grace and richness. Wil has become known as a respected songwriter that pours his heart and his many experiences into his songs and his performances. Not willing to be boxed into a specific genre, Wil says his music blurs the lines between traditional jazz, gospel, and R&B.
Many know Wil as a community leader and veteran marketing/PR professional, but may not know of his love for music and singing. He began singing as a child in Washington, D.C., and for close to three decades he has been a lead vocalist in the music department at one of Denver’s most prominent African American churches – the New Hope Baptist Church.Prior to his debut solo performance at Lannie’s, Wil spent time as a back-up singer for prominent Denver vocalist Mary Louise Lee.
Wil released his freshman cd in 2018 titled, “Introducing Wil Alston” and is looking to release his sophmore project tentatively titled, “The Long Way Around.”
Wil says his musical influences include: Nat King Cole, Donny Hathaway, Nancy Wilson, Dianne Reeves, Gregory Porter, Kevin Whalum, Will Downing, and Kurt Elling.
