Designating the Denver Press Club as a beneficiary in your trust, will, life insurance, charitable gift annuities or other estate plans will ensure you can provide a lasting legacy for the future of the Club, its historic building and journalism in Denver and Colorado. You will also become a part of the Press Club Legacy Society.

Club supporters may also show your commitment to journalism in Colorado by naming the Denver Press Club in their estate plans. By informing us of your gift, you will be inducted into the Denver Press Club Legacy Society.

What is the Denver Press Club Legacy Fund?

The Denver Press Club Legacy Fund provides scholarships to deserving students pursuing degrees in journalism, communications or media at Colorado colleges or universities; sponsors informational programs about public affairs and the role of the free press; preserves and improves the historic Denver Press Club building; and supports other projects consistent with the Club’s mission.

Why should I give to the Denver Press Club?
Designating the Denver Press Club as a beneficiary in your estate plan or other planned giving mechanism ensures the continuing health of the country’s oldest continuously operating press club, supports deserving journalism students, promotes democracy and an informed electorate, advocates for the First Amendment and robust media working in the public interest, and invests in preservation of the historic Denver Press Club building. By informing us of your gift, you will be inducted into the Denver Press Club Legacy Society.

How can I donate to the Fund?
You can designate the Denver Press Club as a beneficiary in your trust, will, life insurance, charitable gift annuities or other estate plans. The Fund also accepts direct contributions. You may also contact The Denver Foundation, which manages the fund, about donating.

Can I specify how my gift will be used?
Yes. You may restrict your gift for specific purposes, for example, preservation and improvement of the historic Denver Press Club building. The Fund also gratefully accepts unrestricted gifts that can be used for any purpose consistent with the Club’s mission.

I’m specifically interested in scholarships. Can I donate solely to support students?
Yes. The Denver Press Club Legacy Fund provides scholarships to deserving students pursuing degrees in journalism, communications or media at Colorado colleges or universities. Another option is a donation to the John C. Ensslin Scholarship Fund, a separate fund designed specifically to support the Club’s Damon Runyon Scholars.

How will my gift be managed?
The Denver Press Club Legacy Fund is intended to generate income for the Club in perpetuity. Periodically, the Club may take up to a 5 percent distribution of the average fund balance for the preceding 12 quarters, leaving principal sufficient to generate future returns. The Fund is managed by the highly respected Denver Foundation, which holds, invests and distributes funds on behalf of the Club. Will I be able to examine the finances of the Club and the Fund before I commit to a bequest?
Yes. Club officers will be happy to answer all of your questions.

How will my gift be acknowledged?
The Denver Press Club Legacy Society honors donors who have pledged bequests or other planned gifts to ensure that the Denver Press Club continues to thrive. Recognitions include, but are not limited to acknowledgement in the Club’s website, Facebook page and publications; prominent listings at the historic Club building; acknowledgement during Club functions and special events planned specifically to honor donors.

Can I keep my gift confidential?
Yes.

Is there a minimum gift size for the Legacy Fund?
No.

I’m not a journalist. May I still donate to the Fund?
Yes. The Fund welcomes donations from anyone, regardless of profession, employment status or Club membership. The Fund also welcomes donations made to honor friends, relatives, mentors or other people whom the donor wishes to commemorate.

Does the Denver Press Club Legacy Fund accept non-monetary donations?
The Fund managers prefer monetary donations, but will consider other types of donations on a case-by-case basis.

What are the tax implications of my gift?
The Denver Press Club is a Colorado nonprofit organization with 501(c)3 status. Please consult your tax advisor for advice about your personal tax situation.
