Flood control And Perspectives on the City of Boulder’s Plan
September 15 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm MDT

Registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor Ben Binder believes Boulder is seriously mismanaging a major flood control project.
This 45-minute presentation will be followed by a 15-minute discussion.
The introduction will be about storms, floods and mapping floodplains.
Then, Binder will cover reducing flood damage through prudent land-use planning and common mitigation methods.
He’ll share the history of the South Boulder Creek floodplain and the Flatiron gravel quarry, and CU’s purchase of the flood-prone mined-out gravel quarry for a future campus.
He’ll finish the discussion by talking about the 2013 flood, Boulder’s plan to protect homes from future flooding, and how politics, engineering errors, and design constraints have overlooked a far better design, resulting in a 450% cost increase.
