SUMMARY:The Urban Salon
DESCRIPTION:The Press Club will begin hosting monthly Urban Salons on contentious local topics\, allowing community members and professionals to discuss issues that affect their city and their lives. \nThe salons will be held on the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.\, and we encourage attendees to arrive early to grab a beverage. \nThe salon series is paired with an event called the Great Debate\, where we host professionals to debate the same controversial topic in the last week of each month. The salons will allow those with strong opinions to join the conversation and have their voices heard. \nThe goal is to take those online arguments and bring people together in person for productive conversation. Consider it an opportunity for a confluence of ideas. \nOur door is open to all\, but it’s heavy\, so push hard! \nTickets are free\, but we ask that you RSVP\, and we always appreciate donations. \nPlease RSVP here \n

SUMMARY:Poems and Potables
DESCRIPTION:Poems and Potables\n \nListen\, lettered lords and ladies\, loquacious louts\, liquor lovers\, libertines\, and lushes. Lap luxurious libations and let loose lyrical language! Lash lead-lobed losers\, lampoon lickspittles or lecture lacking learners. \nOn July 3\, come into the Press Club and flex your poetry skills. Write a short poem\, or a few\, share them with your clubmates over a summery gin cocktail\, or whatever drink you may prefer. \nWorld Gin Day is in June. Gin comes from the U.K.\, and so do clerihew poems! Try your hand for the clerihew contest! \nWhat is a clerihew? A clerihew poem: \n\nIs biographical and whimsical\, showing the subject from an unusual point of view.\n Has four lines of irregular length and meter for comic effect.\nHas a rhyme structure of AABB; the subject matter and wording are often humorously contrived in order to achieve a rhyme.\nHas a first line that contains\, and may consist solely of\, the subject’s name.\n\nTickets are free\, but we ask that you register\, and donations are always appreciated. \nRegister here. \nSome clerihew examples:\nPress Club Staple Cass\, \nTaught me how to fill a glass\, \nBut now when I make her drinks\, \nAll I get is a look that stinks. \n  \nBarwoman Julia Bailey\, \nHelps customers daily\, \nBut for the bartender main\, \nShe serves only pain. \n  \nThe famous man from Nantucket \nJust about kicked the bucket \nCause he can’t do his trick \nWhen the poem isn’t a limerick
