SUMMARY:Community Debate on Amendment 87: Colorado’s Graduated Income Tax Proposal
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nHear speakers for and against a graduated income tax\, then share your own views in a Braver Angels forum. \nJoin us for a Braver Angels debate\, hosted by the Denver Press Club– you won’t find anywhere else — a space to think together\, listen with curiosity\, and engage across differences on one of Colorado’s most important ballot questions this year. \nDebate topic:\nResolved: Colorado should adopt a graduated income tax to increase funding for K–12 education\, health care\, and early childhood services. \nNote: This resolution does not represent Braver Angels’ or the Denver Press Club’s stance on the issue. The moderators will alternate between speeches supporting and opposing the resolution. \nThis topic is directly connected to Amendment 87 / Initiative 195 on the Colorado state ballot. If you’re trying to make sense of the issue\, want to hear thoughtful arguments from both sides\, or simply want to experience a healthier way of engaging politics\, this debate is for you. \nThis debate will feature two speakers in the affirmative and two speakers in the negative\, followed by time for any attendee to speak\, ask questions\, or offer a perspective. Whether you come to share your thoughts or simply to listen\, you’ll be part of a structured\, respectful conversation that helps us understand one another more deeply. \nTickets\nTickets are free\, but please RSVP\, and donations to Braver Angels and the Denver Press Club are appreciated.  \nPlease RSVP here \nor here https://www.eventbrite.com/e/community-debate-on-amendment-87-colorados-graduated-income-tax-proposal-registration-2002314419329 \nMore Information\nTo learn more about Braver Angels’ debates\, you can check out the quick start guide and a video about the spirit of a Braver Angels Debate. SUMMARY:Should polls be banned?
DESCRIPTION:Polling has had a difficult summer. The Michigan and Wisconsin primaries’ polls were off by more than ten points. There have been reports of fake polls\, dozens of new pollsters with no track record\, and the end of live phone interviews. \nFloyd Ciruli\, a longtime Colorado pollster and adjunct professor of polling\, will address these problems with Axios reporter John Frank\, and other professional Colorado pollsters. \nMany European states regulate polling\, but it is mostly the wild west in the U.S. Among Cirluli’s topics: Is polling in trouble\, or is this year not much different than past midterm primary elections? And\, as Coloradans get ready to vote\, what should they look for to judge good\, shoddy or fake polls? \nPlease RSVP here  \nor here https://denverpressclub.wildapricot.org/event-6859744

SUMMARY:The Crime Reporter presented as a staged reading
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the one-night-only Denver premiere of veteran arts journalist and playwright John Moore’s new play\, “The Crime Reporter\,” to be presented as a “staged reading” by professional local actors upstairs at the Denver Press Club at  6:30 p.m. Wednesday\, October 14.  \nJohn is a Denver Press Club member\, and his father’s portrait hangs on the Denver Press Club Hall of Fame wall. However\, “The Crime Reporter” is an homage to John’s mother\, fellow journalist Florence Moore\, who had eight kids by the time she was 32\, ran for public office and co-founded the Arvada Citizen newspaper.  \nSet across the changing landscape of 1970s Arvada\, this witty\, poignant play follows two Catholic moms — and one pint-sized member of the neighborhood press — navigating a decade of shifting American family dynamics. Through the comic lens of the town newspaper’s weekly police blotter\, their lives collide in a deeply personal coming-of-age story of family resilience\, female autonomy and the power of a clacking typewriter key.   \nJoin us for this singular event where the press club is\, in its way\, a supporting character. Seating is extremely limited. Tickets $15 ($10 for members) \n  \nGet tickets here \nOr at https://denverpressclub.wildapricot.org/event-6854774

SUMMARY:Extra!extra presents: lil piñon with Lauren Gale
DESCRIPTION:Extra!extra At The DPC: Once a month we climb the steps of the DPC to bask in a glorious collision of great music and great ideas. Local and touring acts of all genres are welcome on our stage. We pair each headliner with a short (5-15 minute) and lively expert presentation on a topic that affects YOU. \nOur Grand Opening last month featuring touring artist Nat Lefkoff was a hit with both longtime members and guests — so call your friends and add our next show to your calendar NOW. (Tickets may sell out.) \nAbout lil piñon and “Don’t Even Trip”: “Don’t Even Trip” is the debut album from lil piñon\, which is the nom-de-guerre of Joshua Randy Abeyta\, a singer-songwriter-lyricist from Denver\, CO. This album\, 20 years in the making\, is his life’s work\, a culmination of 2 decades with songs written everywhere from a jail cell to the back porch of his first home. These songs are inspired by the 7 generations that came before us\, and the 7 generations to come\, and speak on the growth\, discipline\, sacrifice and awareness it takes to grow from a boy\, to a man\, to an elder. \nCheck out the album here before the show so you can sing along to your favorite parts. Grab your dancing shoes. We cannot wait to see you all boogie! \n  \nBuy tickets here \not at https://denverpressclub.wildapricot.org/event-6854142

SUMMARY:Predicting an election
DESCRIPTION:The midterm elections are fast approaching. Are we bound for a blue wave? A red surprise? Some combination of the two? \nOn October 29\, amateur election forecaster Danny Zimny-Schmitt will outline three scenarios we might see on election night – and how to tell which is unfolding when the returns start coming in. Whether you’re interested in an election map deep dive or more generally curious about what awaits us on election day\, this event is for you!  \nDanny has forecast every congressional election for the past three election cycles (since 2020) and\, in 2024\, correctly forecast 458 of the 468 House and Senate seats up for election. \nPlease RSVP here \nor here https://denverpressclub.wildapricot.org/event-6854798
