SUMMARY:Vice Presidential Debate Watch Party
DESCRIPTION:Is it just us\, or has the vice presidential debate taken on added meaning this year? Join us at the nation’s oldest press club to watch!\n\n\n\n Vice President John Nance Garner famously quipped that his office was “not worth a bucket of warm spit.” That might be true – if this wasn’t 2020. In this extraordinary year\, the debate between Vice President Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris has taken on added importance\, given that both major party nominees are in their 70s – and that one of them has been diagnosed with coronavirus. \nJoin us for drinks and discussion as we screen the face off! You know the drill: Masks & tickets required\, and if for any reason the debate gets canceled\, we’ll refund your ticket. \nWe’ll also be offering a happy hour food menu from our friends at Mezcla Maggie Catering.

SUMMARY:Sunshine Week panel on school board transparency
DESCRIPTION:Join the Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition\, in person at the Denver Press Club or live on Facebook\, for a Sunshine Week panel that explores the recent trend among some school boards in Colorado to disregard or evade the Colorado Open Meetings Law by discussing public business — including the replacement of district superintendents — outside of public view. Why is this happening and what can be done about it? \nThe live on CFOIC’s Facebook page. \nModerator: Jeremy Jojola\, 9NEWS investigative reporter \nPanelists: \n\nRobert Marshall\, an attorney and Highlands Ranch resident. Marshall is the plaintiff in a lawsuit that alleges four members of the Douglas County school board met in secret and collectively decided to replace the district superintendent in violation of the open meetings law.\nKendra Carberry\, an attorney who represents numerous local governments in Colorado and advises them on Sunshine Law compliance.\nYesenia Robles\, a Chalkbeat Colorado reporter who covers Denver’s suburban school districts.\nKala Parkinson\, a Cortez Journal reporter who covers the Montezuma-Cortez school district. The superintendent recently was placed on leave — with no decision made at a public board meeting — and then resigned.\n\nSunshine Week\, March 13-19\, is annual nationwide celebration of the laws that guarantee access to public information and proceedings. \nSee CFOIC’s Twitter feed for reminders and updates about the panel.
