DESCRIPTION:Kevin Beaty is an artist and journalist who’s been covering Denver for a decade. He started off making short documentaries for Westword magazine and taking portraits for the Denver Business Journal. He was hired as a founding member of Denverite.com in 2016\, which was acquired by Colorado Public Radio in 2019. In that position\, he’s been recognized for writing\, radio stories\, data analysis and design in addition to his visual journalism. He wears a lot of hats\, but he still prefers digging into long-term photography projects when he gets the chance. Beaty received the Denver Public Library’s 25th annual Eleanor Gehres Award in 2025 for his long-time documentation of the city; Westword named him “Best Storyteller” in their 2024 Best of Denver Awards. With more than 18 years of experience crafting content for art museums\, she has led content strategy and production for The Metropolitan Museum of Art\, the Clyfford Still Museum\, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. \nShe has been the executive producer on numerous award-winning productions\, including Immaterial\, Harlem Is Everywhere\, Met Stories\, MetKids Microscope\, and A Daughter’s Voice. \nSarah has also consulted for a range of cultural organizations\, including Art21\, the Biennial of the Americas\, Denver Botanic Gardens\, the Andy Warhol Museum\, and the J. Paul Getty Trust. In 2015\, she co-founded Tilt West\, a Denver-based nonprofit that promotes discourse on arts and culture in Colorado \nWHAT IS COLORADIO: Colorado is rich with audio artists\, podcast producers and radio professionals\, not to mention countless talented journalists who might be curious about the world of sound. Our goal is to connect and inspire by offering a regular space to elevate interesting and impactful work. DESCRIPTION:Denver Journalism\, History\, Motivation and Place: An exploration into the influence of Denver’s media “titans” and their edifices on its people\, Colorado\, and the country \nOn September 3\, 2025\, join the Denver Press Club for an expert discussion on the impact of Denver journalism and its publishers on the city and state and how and where the building of their offices continues to cement and shape the perception of what power\, freedom of speech\, journalism\, and truth are. \nJason Hanson\, chief creative officer for History Colorado; John Deffenbaugh\, chief executive officer for Historic Denver; Patricia Calhoun\, editor in chief of Westword and historic preservationist; and Phil Goodstein\, author of over 30 books on Denver’s history will fill out a table of panelists each providing their unique perspective on how the west was written\, built\, and remembered. Alan Kania\, Denver Press Club historian and author\, will moderate.  \nAs part of the Denver Press Club’s yearlong celebration of its club house’s centennial\, the event is open to the public and free to attend. \nThe panel discussion starts at 6:30 p.m. with attendees encouraged to arrive at 5 p.m. for tours of the club or drinks in the club’s Pulitzer Lounge. \nRSVP here!
