SUMMARY:Book Talk: 'When Longing Becomes Your Lover'
DESCRIPTION:To sustain her career\, McCracken transitioned from writing purely personal essays to practicing rigorous\, investigative relationship journalism. In addition to speaking with individuals experiencing limerence\, she spent a decade interviewing psychologists\, neuroscientists\,  and somatic therapists to back up her experiences with hard science. This blend of vulnerable storytelling and clinical research allowed her to pitch and publish pieces across distinguished outlets such as the Washington Post and the New York Times.  \nGet tickets here \nor https://denverpressclub.wildapricot.org/event-6860004 \nFind Amanda’s work here:\nwww.amandajmccracken.com \nMy book: When Longing Becomes Your Lover \nMy podcast: The Longing Lab \nWatch my TEDx talk \nRead my NYT story on limerence \nInstagram: @amandajmccracken \nTikTok: @thelonginglab

SUMMARY:Extra!extra presents: lil piñon with Lauren Gale
DESCRIPTION:Extra!extra At The DPC: Once a month\, we climb the steps of the DPC to bask in a glorious collision of great music and great ideas. An intimate experience featuring Denver and occasionally touring artists.  \nWe pair each headliner with a short (5-15 minute) and lively expert presentation on a topic that affects YOU. \nOur Grand Opening last month\, featuring touring artist Nat Lefkoff\, was a hit with both longtime members and guests — so call your friends and add our next show to your calendar NOW. (Tickets may sell out.) \nAbout lil piñon and “Don’t Even Trip”: “Don’t Even Trip” is the debut album from lil piñon\, which is the nom-de-guerre of Joshua Randy Abeyta\, a singer-songwriter-lyricist from Denver\, CO. This album\, 20 years in the making\, is his life’s work\, a culmination of 2 decades with songs written everywhere from a jail cell to the back porch of his first home. These songs are inspired by the 7 generations that came before us\, and the 7 generations to come and speak on the growth\, discipline\, sacrifice and awareness it takes to grow from a boy\, to a man\, to an elder. \nCheck out the album here before the show so you can sing along to your favorite parts. Grab your dancing shoes. We cannot wait to see you all boogie! \n  \nBuy tickets here \nor at https://denverpressclub.wildapricot.org/event-6854142

SUMMARY:Scholarship Party
DESCRIPTION:Scholarship Cocktail Hour\nAt the heart of the Denver Press Club’s mission is supporting the next generation of journalists: students who feel the call to join our profession\, speak truth to power\, and tell the stories that would otherwise stay hidden. \nThrough the John C. Ensslin and Bruce Goldberg Scholarship Fund\, the Denver Press Club awarded 10 scholarships totaling $18\,000 in 2026. On Oct. 24\, we’re honoring those students at the oldest press club in the country — And you need to be in the room. \nThis is the Club’s marquee fall evening. Working journalists\, editors\, longtime members and friends of the Club will gather under one roof to welcome the people who will be covering our communities for years to come. If you attend only one Denver Press Club event this season\, make it this one. \nYou’ll hear about our partnership with The Denver Foundation and how student applications keep growing year after year\, a testament to how much this fund matters. You’ll also meet members of the Club’s Scholarship Committee\, who work every year to lift up the best and brightest student journalists and their work. \nWhy this matters\nFrom Nathan Fernando-Frescas\, President\nOne of my favorite parts of serving on this board has been sitting on the scholarship judging committee. Reading those applications reminds me why this work matters. Local journalism is under real pressure\, and the students who choose it anyway deserve more than a check. They deserve a community. This evening is how we show them they have one\, and that we welcome them with open arms and ongoing support. \nMeet the 2026 scholars\nJohn C. Ensslin Scholarship ($3\,000)\n\nElizabeth “Lilly” Asano\n\nCynthia Hessin Scholarship ($3\,000)\n\nKatya Arzubi\n\nDamon Runyon Scholarships ($1\,500 each)\n\nAinsley Coogan\nMadeus Frandina\nMadison Shaw\nSydney McGarr\nPeighton Lemp\nLila Nuttle\nWilliam Flockton\nEmma Lorene Parton\n\nYour ticket\nGeneral Admission: $50\nYour first drink\, heavy appetizers\, and an evening with this year’s scholars and the people who make Colorado journalism happen. Cash bar after your first drink. \nScholarship Patron: $100\nEverything above\, plus recognition as a Scholarship Patron at the event. $50 of your ticket goes directly to the John C. Ensslin and Bruce Goldberg Scholarship Fund\, so next year’s class starts with your support behind them. \n[Get your tickets]\nOf the $100 Scholarship Patron ticket\, $50 is a contribution to the John C. Ensslin and Bruce Goldberg Scholarship Fund and may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. The remaining $50 reflects the value of food and drink received. \n\nBuy Tickets Here

SUMMARY:The Crime Reporter presented as a staged reading
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the one-night-only Denver premiere of veteran arts journalist and playwright John Moore’s new play\, “The Crime Reporter\,” to be presented as a “staged reading” by professional local actors upstairs at the Denver Press Club at  6:30 p.m. Wednesday\, October 14.  \nJohn is a Denver Press Club member\, and his father’s portrait hangs on the Denver Press Club Hall of Fame wall. However\, “The Crime Reporter” is an homage to John’s mother\, fellow journalist Florence Moore\, who had eight kids by the time she was 32\, ran for public office and co-founded the Arvada Citizen newspaper.  \nSet across the changing landscape of 1970s Arvada\, this witty\, poignant play follows two Catholic moms — and one pint-sized member of the neighborhood press — navigating a decade of shifting American family dynamics. Through the comic lens of the town newspaper’s weekly police blotter\, their lives collide in a deeply personal coming-of-age story of family resilience\, female autonomy and the power of a clacking typewriter key.   \nJoin us for this singular event where the press club is\, in its way\, a supporting character. Seating is extremely limited. Tickets $15 ($10 for members) \n  \nGet tickets here \nOr at https://denverpressclub.wildapricot.org/event-6854774

SUMMARY:Should polls be banned?
DESCRIPTION:Polling has had a difficult summer. The Michigan and Wisconsin primaries’ polls were off by more than ten points. There have been reports of fake polls\, dozens of new pollsters with no track record\, and the end of live phone interviews. \nFloyd Ciruli\, a longtime Colorado pollster and adjunct professor of polling\, will address these problems with Axios reporter John Frank\, and other professional Colorado pollsters. \nFloyd Ciruli will address these problems with Axios reporter/editor John Frank and Jesse Paul of the Colorado Sun. Also joining are pollsters Lori Weigel of New Bridge Strategy and Alex Dunn of Aspect Strategic. Many European states regulate polling\, but it is mostly the wild west in the U.S. Among Ciruli’s topics: Is polling in trouble\, or is this year not much different than past midterm primary elections? And\, as Coloradans get ready to vote\, what should they look for to judge good\, shoddy or take polls. \nPlease RSVP here  \nor here https://denverpressclub.wildapricot.org/event-6859744

SUMMARY:Crossing the Red Line author interview
DESCRIPTION:Crossing the Red Line: Biden\, His Advisors\, and Israel’s War in Gaza\nAkbar Shahid Ahmed chronicles the long series of missteps made by the Biden-Harris administration as they enabled Israel’s campaign in Gaza following the horrific Hamas-led attacks of October 7\, 2023. \nThrough nearly 175 interviews with government insiders and other key players\, Ahmed offers an authoritative account of a defining failure of American foreign policy. \nCrossing the Red Line has been named one of the most anticipated books of 2026 by LitHub and Publishers Weekly (among their top 10 Politics books for the fall)\, and a BuzzBook by Publishers Marketplace. The book has received a rare starred review from Publishers Weekly. \n“A meticulously reported record of the key moments\, behind-the-scenes decisions\, and political rationalizations of a Biden administration that could not find a way to say no to the unthinkable. This is essential reading to account for what happened and to hopefully ensure that it doesn’t happen again.” —Ben Rhodes\, deputy U.S. national security advisor under President Barack Obama and New York Times best-selling author of After the Fall \n“This book is a must-read for anyone who still cares about the use of American power for good rather than evil. It is also a clarion call to liberate U.S. policymakers from the hold of Israel extremists and their American lobbyists.” Omer Bartov\, Dean’s Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies\, Brown University. \nAkbar Shahid Ahmed is the Diplomatic Correspondent at NOTUS\, based in Washington\, D.C. Ahmed has received a Writers Guild Award and a New York Press Club Award\, and twice been named a finalist for the Livingston Award – the “Pulitzer for the young.” He is a Yale graduate who\, for 12 years\, covered foreign policy at HuffPost. A regular contributor to MS NOW and NPR. \n  \nThe event is free\, but please RSVP here \nOr here https://denverpressclub.wildapricot.org/event-6814350

SUMMARY:Laura Frank Caricature Reveal
DESCRIPTION:On Sept. 25\, the Denver Press Club will add Laura’s caricature to our Wall of Fame. \n“Along the way\, I’ve had the enormous good fortune to work with\, learn from and occasionally cause trouble alongside some of the best journalists in the state\, Laura said in a recent newsletter to members. \nLong-time board member and secretary Laura Frank served on the board for eight years\, and her thoughtful approach to governance and deep love of this club have been major factors in the press club you see today. From taking notes to offering guidance to holding her wedding in our great hall upstairs\, her engagement has meant the world to the club\, and we are thankful for having the opportunity to honor her in some small way. \n“Journalism has given me an extraordinary career\, but even more importantly\, it has given me an extraordinary community. I’d love to have some of that community there — friends\, colleagues\, co-conspirators\, former competitors and anyone else willing to raise a glass to Colorado journalism while pretending the caricature looks exactly like me…or maybe pretending it doesn’t look exactly like me!” \nPlease put 6 p.m. on Sept. 25 on your calendar\, and join us as the Denver Press Club places Laura’s caricature on the wall. There will be hors d’oeuvres\, fun\, and\, of course\, Laura. \nPlease RSVP here \nor https://denverpressclub.wildapricot.org/event-6841513

SUMMARY:Extra Extra Opening Night: Nat Lefkoff
DESCRIPTION:Bring yourself and friends to celebrate the Grand Opening of eXtRa!ExTra\, the Denver Press Club’s new upstairs pop-up venue and show series! We look forward to bringing music back to the club as never before\, with regular (at first\, monthly) performances designed to move you—emotionally\, physically or both. Folk\, punk\, rock\, soul\, funk\, bluegrass — eXtRa!ExTrA is open to all comers\, all ages and accepts suggestions for local and touring acts that should grace our stage. We expect a magnificent evening on September 19 and look forward to many more. \neXtRa!ExTrA’s Take: “Nat Lefkoff’s unforgettable voice carries Cohen-esque lyrics expressing a discerning and deeply compassionate view on the suffering\, wonder\, and contradiction of being human. With lyrics and melodies too catchy to fall under the bland heading of ‘singer-songwriter\,’and folk instrumentation flavoring a pop-rock core to his sound\, you’ll have to decide for yourself how to describe his music to your friends.” \nArtist bio: “Nat Lefkoff is a Northern California–based singer-songwriter whose music blends folk\, rock\, and Americana with deeply personal storytelling. Known for his raw\, emotive vocals and honest lyricism\, Lefkoff crafts songs that explore love\, growth\, resilience\, and the shared human experience. With multiple releases and a reputation for intimate yet energetic live performances\, he has built a loyal and growing fanbase across the country. On tour\, Nat Lefkoff delivers heartfelt\, engaging shows that connect audiences through authenticity\, strong musicianship\, and memorable songwriting.” \nWant to hear this artist and learn the words before you arrive? You can find tracks “Rot\,” “Great White Plains\,” and others on all major streaming platforms. SUMMARY:Flood control And Perspectives on the City of Boulder's Plan
