SUMMARY:Caricature Hanging Party for Joe Boven
DESCRIPTION:Join the Denver Press Club for a party and ceremony as it reveals and hangs the club’s current vice-president Joe Boven’s caricature on the DPC Caricature Wall. The event will take place on September 11\, starting at 5:30 p.m. with the caricature reveal and hanging ceremony starting around 6:30 or 7 p.m. Food will be provided and will include typical BBQ fair; however\, those who would like to are welcome to bring sides. Drink tickets will be available to the lucky few who register and show up before they run out. \nThe event is also Boven’s birthday party\, and he will be using the opportunity to celebrate both his 51st year and his father’s birthday\, which is on the 9th. So\, please say happy birthday to both of them. \nThe event is free\, but please consider this a chance to join the club\, renew your membership\, or donate what you can to the DPC. Please also consider this an opportunity to roast Boven at the event\, but be kind. \nDon’t know who Joe Boven is? That’s okay. It’s a great opportunity to meet him and other club members while eating some food. \nWe can’t wait to see you for this special event. \nP.S. For those attending Crafting Democracy. Please feel free to mingle\, eat some food\, attend the ceremony\, promote Crafting for Democracy\, and show attendees your creations. \nPlacement on the DPC Caricature Wall recognizes a member’s extraordinary contributions to the club. Placement is the decision of the DPC president in consultation with member advisors. \nBoven\, who first became a member in 2008\, served on the board as a communications chair from 2016 through 18/19ish and then again over the last four years. Over that time\, he crafted a SWOT analysis and change plan\, established some of the club’s initial modern infrastructure and communications strategy\, enhanced marketing\, communications\, and digital outreach; ran the newsletter; supported events; bought the club’s martini classes and washed said glasses numerous times\, helped hire some people\, wrote some press releases; made some videos\, ran Colorado Gives Day campaigns; provided AV and online auctions for Runyon Awards; Hall of Fame and some Ghost tours; and more recently led a campaign to celebrate the DPC clubhouse’s 150th year. He currently chairs the Development and External Relations committee and is actively working to help reimagine our scholarship program\, among other tasks and initiatives. Boven was nominated for a caricature by former DPC President Marianne Goodland. \n					\n									Register now

DESCRIPTION:On Sept. 25\, the Denver Press Club will add Laura’s caricature to our Wall of Fame. \n“Along the way\, I’ve had the enormous good fortune to work with\, learn from and occasionally cause trouble alongside some of the best journalists in the state\, Laura said in a recent newsletter to members. \nLong-time board member and secretary Laura Frank served on the board for eight years\, and her thoughtful approach to governance and deep love of this club have been major factors in the press club you see today. From taking notes to offering guidance to holding her wedding in our great hall upstairs\, her engagement has meant the world to the club\, and we are thankful for having the opportunity to honor her in some small way. \n“Journalism has given me an extraordinary career\, but even more importantly\, it has given me an extraordinary community. I’d love to have some of that community there — friends\, colleagues\, co-conspirators\, former competitors and anyone else willing to raise a glass to Colorado journalism while pretending the caricature looks exactly like me…or maybe pretending it doesn’t look exactly like me!” \nPlease put 6 p.m. on Sept. 25 on your calendar\, and join us as the Denver Press Club places Laura’s caricature on the wall.
