Denver Press Club Members,

With Prime Rib Night plus a guest bartender appearance by TV weather reporter Nick Carter on Friday, we anticipate a big night.
But we do require reservations for the dinner, by 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, and you can make them one of three ways:
1. Blacktie-Colorado.com
2. Use your credit card to make a reservation with our bartender.
3. Email your reservation, with a credit card number, to club manager Carmen Green at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
We have had to tighten up the reservation system in order to better administer these events, and we ask your cooperation. See full details below under Feb. 19.

Other DPC notes:
1. Remember that your membership dues are due March 1. Of course, we'll accept them after that, as we always do. But gosh, do you really want a phone call from one of the board members to pester you for your dues?
2. If you would like to contribute photos to our photo archive - which eventually will go on the website - please email me. We really could use your help here.

Thanks

Bruce Goldberg
President, Board of Directors
Denver Press Club

Our March nonfiction book selection is "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance," by Robert Persig.

From Amazon.com Review -- Robert Pirsig brings us a literary chautauqua, a novel that is meant to both entertain and edify. It scores high on both counts.

Phaedrus, our narrator, takes a present-tense cross-country motorcycle trip with his son during which the maintenance of the motorcycle becomes an illustration of how we can unify the cold, rational realm of technology with the warm, imaginative realm of artistry. As in Zen, the trick is to become one with the activity, to engage in it fully, to see and appreciate all details--be it hiking in the woods, penning an essay, or tightening the chain on a motorcycle.

In his autobiographical first novel, Pirsig wrestles both with the ghost of his past and with the most important philosophical questions of the 20th century--why has technology alienated us from our world? What are the limits of rational analysis? if we can't define the good, how can we live it? ... Brian Bruya

(17) NEW LISTING Wednesday, April 14, Reception at 6 p.m. and event starts at 6:30 p.m. Co-authors Adam Schrager, KUSA 9 News, and former Colorado state Rep. Rob Witwer will discuss their new book, "The Blueprint: How the Democrats Won Colorado (and Why Republicans Everywhere Should Care" in a Denver Post Helen Verba Lecture Series/Denver Press Club joint event.

The book brings you inside the smoke-free backrooms of progressive politics, where mega donors and savvy strategists created a plan to turn the tide of American elections. At a time when the political stakes are higher than ever for America -- Democrats fearful of a backlash are desperate to hold on to their majority, while Republicans hope to replicate the recent Massachusetts victory in many other states -- the authors look at the present and future of American politics.
