March 31, 2017: David Simon Runyon Award Ceremony
David Simon, creator of "The Wire" and former Baltimore Sun journalist, will be the 23rd Annual Damon Runyon Award recipient.
Simon, creator of such critically acclaimed shows as "The Wire," "Treme" and "Show Me a Hero," will recieve the award at a banquet held in his honor on Friday, March 31, 2017 at the Denver Athletic Club. Tickets for the event can be purchased at: http://tinyurl.com/hnkdn9z.
We are recognizing Simon for his long career as a crime reporter who refused to “cheat a story,” his unconventional and powerful non-fiction works told while embedded with the Baltimore Police homicide unit, and his dedication to telling stories of meaningful depth through his works for television. Simon continues to inspire both burgeoning and seasoned writers alike and embodies the example of Damon Runyon.
The Runyon is the Club's highest award. Each spring we choose a journalist whose vivid writing and storytelling recalls that of Damon Runyon, the legendary newspaper columnist, reporter and former Denver Press Club (DPC) member.
The Award ceremony is the DPC's biggest event of the year, and it is one of Denver's most beloved social events. We hope all of you can be there.
