Aug. 2: Celebrating Our Entrance into the National Register of Historic Places

Join dignitaries and the community as we Celebrate Our History!

On Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 6:30 p.m. join the Denver Press Club as we install a plaque commemorating its entry on the National Register of Historic Places, and commence with a grand celebration marking our 150th anniversary.

In 1867 Denver became the Territorial Capital of Colorado. That same year a group of newspapermen in this gold-seeking, whiskey-drinking frontier town began meeting as a press club. Rivals by day, they spent evenings tapping into the barrel of Taos Lightning, debating events of the day, and playing a little poker.150 years later, the Denver Press Club lives on.

Denver Congresswoman Diana DeGette will be there to read the extension of remarks recognizing the Club’s sesquicentennial, its storied history and the continuing critical role of the Fourth Estate. Her full remarks will officially be presented to the House of Representatives this month.

Denver Mayor Hancock is also scheduled to deliver remarks recognizing the importance of the Club’s 150th anniversary.

City Councilman and former Club President Kevin Flynn will also be on hand, as will noted Colorado historians Tom Noel and Stephen Leonard, along with longtime members, supporters, other community leaders and VIPs.

The celebration begins at 6:30 p.m. at 1330 Glenarm Place, with a formal dedication ceremony kicking off at 7 p.m. Stop by for libations and appetizers, and be a part of history.
