Aug 17: A Celebration of CORA Modernization
Join us Thursday, Aug. 17 for a celebration of open records and the CORA modernization law, which takes effect that month. A journey that started with a request by the Fort Collins Coloradoan concluded in June when Gov. John Hickenlooper signed into law a number of changes to the Colorado Open Records Act. The changes clarify the public’s right to obtain digital public records in useful file formats that allow for searching or sorting. The Colorado Freedom of Information Coalition, which advocated for the bill, says it’s now easier to analyze government records and the changes will help Coloradans better understand how government works, how tax dollars are spent and how policies are made and implemented. A 5:30 reception will be followed by a 6:30 discussion featuring CFOIC executive director Jeffrey Roberts, Senate sponsor Sen. John Kefalas, and others.
